Parent Advocacy Project

Parent advocacy is an approach for Pupil Referral Units can use to provide a framework of support for parents, which in turn enables better outcomes for young people. The GLA funded five PRU pathfinders to develop parent advocacy and the learning is captured in the handbook "Turning Walls into Windows". It gives a working definition of parent advocacy, sets out the Do's and Don'ts and practical considerations for delivery. This is essential information for any PRU or other organisation wishing to establish a similar project. The pathfinder project was evaluated by WCL and the evaluation report sets out the methods used to support development of the project and the issues on data capture. The 4 handbooks associated with the project can be downloaded below.
